Now you see it . . . Now you don't . . .

It's those little things in life that surprise you. You know, something that you know is there, but all of a sudden it isn't.

Well, for maybe 40 or 50 years a utility pole was imbedded deep in the earth in a little strip of ground between G-T Metal (formerly the John Deere business) and the Farmer's and Merchant's Bank on main street of Lawrence.

Well . . . Until last week Thursday, that is.

Residents in Nebraska know full well the intensity and frequency of Mother Nature's wind. The year, 2022, seems to be trying to make up for any deficiencies Mother may have had in its history.

It seems that our winds not only helps prairie fires spread, they also blow utility poles over.

The utility pole shown above fell down in the high powered wind of last Thursday. It fell 'just right' not damaging either the bank building of the G-T Metal building, ending just short of the pickup truck parked on Main Street. It is suspected of just missing the power line on Main Street.

It appeared the wood pole had deteriorated right at ground level, making the pole wesk enough that all it needed was a little help from the wind to fall over.
