E-mail outage interrupts newspaper production
Newspaper Email
April 28, 2022
Email has become the primary way people communicate with this newspaper but with email addresses often changing it is often hard to keep track of current addresses.
For example this newspaper was the second customer to subscribe when the local telephone company began offering dial-up internet service in Superior and is currently the company’s longest term customer, but we have had several address changes, none of which were working Tuesday. We’ve lost count but expect the suffix associated with the account may have changed as many as five times.
At the advice of a man in the internet business, we registered our own address, which could be moved from one service provider to another. That address of [email protected] has been hosted by at least four companies but for those correspondents communicating with us, the address has not changed and the move from host to host was seamless.
This week there is a problem with [email protected]. The company hosting the account has not cashed our checks in payment for the service nor sent us bills since September. And several checks have been returned as unclaimed. We can’t reach them by telephone, mail or email. About noon on Tuesday, we stopped getting emails directed to our account though we could still send email. Several weeks ago we asked a computer specialist to help move the account to another host but thus far that has not happened.
After getting several hundred emails most days, getting none seems strange.
We’ve have addresses with other companies but two of those companies in recent weeks, advised they were discontinuing email service and that we should move the accounts to someone else.
At this time, it appears email sent to either of two addresses will still reach our Superior office, but for how long? We don’t know.
It is our policy to confirm receipt of emails. At the present time, when sending important messages to this newspaper’s Superior office, we suggest in addition to [email protected], you may want to consider sending to [email protected], or thesuperior [email protected].
