The Burr Oak Community Library has a new librarian, Jessica Rothchild. Serving in a library is not new to Jessica as she previously was an assistant librarian at the Mankato City Library for two years. She began her new duties at the library in Burr Oak a month ago. Jessica replaces the former librarian, Tanya Underwood.

Though Jessica lives in Mankato, she believes the drive to and from Burr Oak is not a distance at all. She enjoys being the new librarian and is keeping busy getting acquainted with all the locals. It is a good fit as she enjoys reading books and she is a real people person. "I believe everyone has their own story to share," she adds. When asked if she had a favorite book, she quickly said there are too many books on her favorite list to mention.

Jesse Rothchild is the new librarian at the Burr Oak Community Library.

She hopes to have everyone stop in to visit with her, get acquainted and maybe pick out a book to read. Jessica is beginning to plan the annual summer reading program for children K-6th grade, that will begin sometime after school is out. Another activity at the library is a large group of women called The Stitch Club meets every Thursday from 12:30 to 3 p.m. On Monday nights during the winter months, a Vinyl-Music Club meets and will start up once again in January 2023. The American Legion Auxiliary and Junior Auxiliary hold their monthly meetings in the library meeting area. Around Christmas time, there is a craft fair that includes homemade items on display for sale.

The library hours remain the same: Monday evenings 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesdays 10 a.m. to 6p.m., and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Jessica's husband Erik works in the Rock Hills School District's transportation department. Their children are Chloe, 13 years old; Catelyn, 12 years old, and Casey 10 years old. The children attend Rock Hills Schools. Jessica is a native of Henderson, Neb.

Jessica considers the Burr Oak Community Library is a "fun and special library," that is designed to suit all ages. She adds, "Everyone is welcome here."
