May Day . . .

The importance of the first day of May has seemed to have lost its importance in our current culture which seems to center on ones-self, rather than others . . . I can remember well when the Communist used the day to display its military might with parades and speeches telling the world how great they were. Other Socialists use the day as well to try to justify their existence and try to convince everyone else how great their economies were. Catholics used the month to remember it as the month of Mary and how great was her presence in the world and what a great job she did as a silent intercessor with God. (I like the last example as the way to go.)

Then . . . there was the custom of giving “May Baskets.” I’m not sure how it started, or where it started but I can well remember making the baskets, taking them to neighbors and friend’s homes. We would ring the door bell and run like crazy, so we could not get caught as they were to be surprise to those receiving the May basket. It was fun for kids and I also remember our own children doing the custom when they were little.

I bring this up this year as last week (several days after May Day, I came home and found a May Basket at our front door. What a surprise. I don’t have the slightest idea where it came from, but it was a gentle surprise and reminder of days gone by. I don’t know how many others there were around the village, but I want to thank whoever brought the May Basket to us. We truly enjoyed the contents.

The discontent and hate we receive every day on TV and in the newspapers at time was overwhelmed, for several days as we consumed the delicious contents of the May Basket.

Spring, 2022: This talk of May reminded me of my annual Spring problem . . . that of getting the lawn mower started.

I did it over the weekend and I thought I had the problem solved.

I knew I needed to ‘jump-start’ the mower. I drove the car in place and went to open the hood to connect the cables. That is when the trouble started.

I don’t know about many of you, but I can ‘not-so-fondly’ remember the day when I opened the car’s hood at least once a week, to add oil to the engine or some other problem. Currently, I can remember maybe once a year or so having to open the hood of the car.

So . . . last week it took me longer to figure out how to get the hood up than it took me to get the mower started.

I never claims to have much mechanical ability. However, all ended well as I got the hood up and the mower started, and . . . the grass got mowed.

The Supreme Court of the United States is mainly held with respect. That is done in spite of decisions they make that you may, or may not, like. It is the one part of our federal government that is mostly above the rancor of everyday political parties.

However, that changed greatly last week as someone in the Supreme Court establishment leaked what is said be a decision on the future of what is called the Row vs. Wade decision of the court that allowed abortions on demand in the U. S.

The uproar and the side of the Liberals and Democrats was almost predictable. There were demonstrations and protests scattered all over the U. S. over the weekend.

The demonstrations came over a “leaked” document that we don’t even know for sure that it is accurate of what the final decision of the court may be.

The quick outbreak of the protests, however, helps prove the point that the Liberals plan for such opportunities to demonstrate. They have organizers ready and loaded to lead “protests” of any kind.

Last weekend the Liberals were especially targeted at Catholic Churches around the nation. One occasion I noted in a ‘news-report’ was in New York City.

A police spokesman noted that: “the organizers are familiar to us as we’ve seen them at other demonstrations.”

The Liberals thrive on “chaos and confusion.” It seems they also plan on it by having people organized to instigate these ‘demonstrations’ that so often turn into violent riots.

Our primary election will be over by the time this is printed. However, remember that the general election is coming this November. Please remain alert and find out all you can on any candidate still in the election process.

Liberals are often also known as Democrats. Please keep alert to all candidates. November will be here before you know it.

Folks, I can tell it’s time for the election to take place.

This year I’ve received many, many post-cards from various political candidates. That’s a great way to get your information out to the voting public, however, enough is enough. For the last week, I’ve received at least one post card a day from someone. Last Wednesday I received three post cards from the same candidate. That broke my will to read them over to help me make up my mind about who to vote for.

Democracy is great, but it takes work . . . and patience.
