SHS graduation

The commencement ceremony for the 135th graduating class of Superior High School took place Saturday in the high school gymnasium. Family and friends filled the room.

The Superior High School Concert Band, under the direction of Allison White, performed Sir Edward Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March #1 in D., the traditional graduation processional. The march, one of five, was composed in 1901. It was first performed at a graduation in 1904 when Elgar was presented with an honorary doctorate degree from the Yale University Music Conservatory. The tradition expanded to Princeton University in 1906 then spread across university, college and high school graduation ceremonies. The National Anthem was played.

Seth Schnakenberg presented the invocation.

Bob Cook, Superior High School principal, announced the academic recognition for members of the Class of 2022. Graduates with cum laude honors ( a 93-95 grade average) were Brett Miller, Kya Hodges, Shayla Meyer, Mya Mikkelsen, Dane Miller, Taygun Rothchild, Sherice Frasier, Cailyn Barry, Emma Henderson and Clayton Morris. The magna cum laude honor (95 to 97) was earned by Mikynzie Hansen. The summa cum laude honor (98 and higher) was bestowed upon Seth Schnakenberg.

The senior musical selection, "Little Wonders" was played as graduates presented a white rose to parents and family members.

Marty Kobza, superintendent of Superior Schools, presented the Class of 2022 to the board of education, Matt Sullivan, president, Peggy Meyer, vice-president, Brad Biltoft, secretary, Matt Bargen, Jason Jensen and Luke Meyers, as having met the requirements for graduation.

Jordan Brown and Sherice Frasier depart the Superior High School gymnasium as members of the graduated Class of 2022.

Sullivan presented each member of the graduating class with their diploma as they crossed the stage.

Members of the Class of 2022 are Hannah Bardon, Cailyn Barry, Dominique Baumbach, Luka Benjamin, Jordan Brown, Jacki Browning, Payton Christiancy, Matt Colgrove, Gavin Ekstein, Katharina Engelhardt, Devon Field, Sherice Frasier, Mikynzie Hansen, Cailey Hanson, Isaac Hathaway, Emma Henderson, Kya Hodges, Brent Kussman, Matthew Mertink, Shayla Meyer, Mya Mikkelsen, Brett Miller, Dane Miller, Clayton Morris, Morgan Payton, Taygun Rothchild, Seth Schnakenberg, Brianna Stricklin, Anders Webber, Ty Woerner and Tyson Zimmerman.

The graduated class exited the room to the strains of "Heat waves" by Glass Almonds.

The gymnasium emptied out as graduates, family and friends headed for parties and receptions being held in recognition of the graduates accomplishments.
