County Board

The Nuckolls County Board of Commissioners met at the county courthouse in Nelson Monday. All three commissioners were present.

The board, after a presentation from Murphy Tractor and equipment, placed an order for a maintainer. The machine will be paid for from the next fiscal year. The order was placed to lock in the current state price. Significant price increases are expected in the next contract because of rampant inflation.

The board approved the county employees’ insurance plan with Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Nebraska. The board approved an across the board pay increase of 5.9 percent for all non-elected employees.

Brad Baker reported he has hired two new deputies to bring his staff up to force. Adam Baker has begun his required on the job training. He will attend the law enforcement academy beginning August 22. Jason Miller, a former Superior police officer and Clay County deputy, will join the department as a certified law enforcement officer June 1.


The board held a discussion to iron out the details of the county animal control policy.

The board will next meet at 8:30 a.m., June 6.

The courthouse will be closed Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day. The board will meet weekly in June to prepare the 2022-2023 budget.
