Memories . . .

I spent a considerable number of years volunteering as an EMT for the community of Lawrence and I like to recall memories from those years. They come up at the strangest times and places, and they are both good and bad.

However, last Sunday, after Sunday morning Mass I got reminded again of those days gone by.

If the EMT’s suspect there may have been head injuries, or perhaps an older person with a stroke, they go through a cognitive test of the patient. It is not complicated, as they usually ask the patient his name, maybe age or birthday, or day and month of the year or some general questions about society that most everyone would know.

If the patient knows the answers, the medical people are pretty sure there is no brain injury.

However, every once in a while they might get an answer that they have to realize is correct, even if it isn’t what they expected.

The story I got involved an elderly man from this area who was at a “Nursing Home.” They were evaluating him medically and part of that evaluation included that cognitive test.

The man was answering all the questions correctly when they came to the question about who the current president was.

The answer came back as: “We don’t have one.”

Knowing the source of the answer, we realized the joke, but I wondered what the people giving the test thought about it.

“We don’t have one . . .” quite an answer, but seems very true considering everything our government is “doing” or “not doing” to our country.

I am thoroughly convinced that our current president was elected only . . . to be compared with the other two presidents currently rated as the “absolute worse” president in current American history: Carter and Obama.

He seems to have miss-handled most everything of importance in his short time in office: No. 1 – inflation; No. 2 – border with Mexico; No. 3 – ending abortions (actually this is my major concern); No. 4 – the U. S. military and Ukraine with Russia tossed in for good measure; No. 5 – the stoppage of oil drilling in the U. S. The list could be extremely long if we continued on.

As time goes by, I am being more, and more relieved that Trump defeated H. Clinton back in 2016.

Just last week a lawyer working in the Clinton election campaign swore, under oath, that Hillary was directly involved in promoting the false “Russian Connection” with the Trump campaign.

As a nation we spend millions and millions of dollars investigating a phony claim by Mrs. Clinton and her campaign.

Can you imagine what lies she might have used if she were elected.

Returning to the cognitive testing of senior citizens.

The current president seems to have a need for those people working with him to tell him what he really meant when he says something in public.

I am not familiar with all presidents’ statements, however, it has become increasingly common for what the media calls “The White House” to issue and explanation of what the president really meant by what he said the day before.

I cannot recall any president being corrected as he is.

It makes me think our senior citizen who answered the question of “who is our president” with an answer of “We don’t have a president” was correct.

Please remember to pray for the man who fills the president’s position in the U. S. He needs our prayers to govern correctly and we need prayer for him so he knows how to do it.

You may, may not, have noticed that the Catholic Church had 10 new saints announced last week. One of them was named as a “Patron Saint” for Journalist.

It made me happy. I’ve always considered St. Francis de Sales as the Patron Saint of Journalist so I think it good that we now have two saints that might just do what they can to help us people who try to put thoughts to paper correctly and pass our history on to others.

I’ll get to know him better.
