Alumni Golf Event helps Community Building Fund Raising

"Dorf" and caddy pause long enough for a picture Saturday night during the L-N Alumni Golf Tournament supper and dance. The Lawrence Community Building Fund Raising Committee partnered with the Alumni golfing event to serve the lunch after the golfing and during the dance.

A person may need to be of a certain age to remember, but a remnant of the "Carol Burnett" TV shows arrived at the L-N Alumni Golf Tournament supper and dance last Saturday in Lawrence. Tim Conway (aka Terry Cox) and his 'Caddy' (aka Melissa Cox) are shown above at the Golf event's supper and dance at the Lawrence American Legion Club. Tim Conway's comedy routine known as "Dorf" was replicated in an effort to raise funds for the proposed Community Building for Lawrence.

The Coxs had been selling raffle tickets for a golf bag and cooler. Total amounts of money raised throughout the day and evening has not been computed by press time, but is expected to exceed the $4,500 mark.

Winners of the drawings were: Golf Bag: Kris Kotinek; Cooler: Taylor Lynch.

The Community Building Fund Raising Committee continues to raise funds for the building with this being the first major public event after the pandemic. They invite any, and all, donations. No donation will be turned down.

The committee has raised nearly $500,000 to date. With the exception of one large donation, most of the money raised has come in much smaller amounts, but from many sources. Joe Theer has recently been elected as the president of the Fund Raising Committee and the public is invited to visit with him, or see Carla Kohmetscher at the bank, or any Committee member if you wish to make a donation.

We have tried to obtain the results of the golf tournament, but have failed for this week's paper.
