Opportunities ahead for the Auditorium

Endless opportunities ahead for the Auditorium

A partnership between Brodstone Healthcare that began this year included walking and a morning ”bootcamp” exercise program, and is now on the verge of expanding. Although the details are not yet available, Brodstone Healthcare and the Auditorium are making plans to cooperate on other health related activities.

Brodstone Healthcare CEO, Treg Vysourek, said, “Brodstone Healthcare is excited to be partnering with the Superior Auditorium to have a climate controlled environment providing wellness opportunities for all ages. The Superior Auditorium has always been a great venue to use and we are grateful to be a part of their future.”

Since the completion of the heating and cooling system last May, usage of the building has increased rapidly. Superior Dance Studio began operating last August and the students (nearly 80) presented recitals on May 14 to two near-capacity audiences. The Junior-Senior Prom was held in April and graduation celebration celebrations drew a large crowd May 7th. Some dates are already reserved for 2023.

Ten years ago when the Auditorium Committee was faced with the choice of taking ownership of the Auditorium or watching it be torn down, their decision didn’t take long. Yes, of course they would save the building! Pretty quickly, reality set in that this was going to be a gargantuan task. Progress toward restoration has been slow and steady. The next project is to repair mortar joints (tuckpointing). Plans are to have a contractor working within two weeks. That appears to be the last big project to be completed.

In the midst of the “Alumni and Friends Challenge” everyone is invited to take the opportunity to visit the Auditorium. If you haven’t been inside in some time, you’ll be pleased how this part of Superior’s history has come back to life! The Vestey Festival affords several opportunities to step inside…1)Public restrooms (handicapped accessible) 2)Visit vendors inside and outside at “The Market” from 9-3 3)BBQ lunch 11-1 (freewill donation) 4)fresh squeezed lemonade 1-3 (freewill donation) 5)Pulled Pork Dinner 5:30 to 7:30 ($10-meal, $5-sandwich) Please note the DJ and bar scheduled for later Saturday evening have been moved to the bowling alley.

Finally we invite people to join the committee in finishing up this project. Activities happening there are just the beginning…many possibilities remain Donations, large or small really make a difference! Tax deductible donations may be made out to “The Auditorium” and sent to PO Box 96, Superior, Neb. 68978. Please help make this building available for generations to come.
