City of Jewell hosts first Farmer's Market

On Saturday, May 28, the City of Jewell hosted it’s first Farmers Market in Jewell City Park. The morning kicked off with a ribbon cutting ceremony and speeches from Jane Pahls, Jewell Chamber of Commerce representative, and Darrell Bohnert,Jewell mayor. Two vendors, selling a variety of items from baked goods to customized water bottles, were present and people from the surrounding area came to shop. And as part of its opening festivities, a sidewalk coloring contest was held throughout the morning.

The market takes place every Saturday from now until Labor Day from 9 a.m until noon. More vendors are needed, but must adhere to the Kansas rules and regulations for farmers markets. Additionally, per state regulations, all vendors must have and display their Kansas retail sales tax license to participate. For more information or if you would like to participate, contact Scott Young, market manager at zionpantagefarms@ yahoo.com or (785)319-9190.
