Formoso acquires new fire truck

 

This 1994 Ford pumper-tank fire truck replaces a the Formoso Volunteer Fire Department's 1970 Chevrolet truck. Above, Bob Roush, Formoso Fire Chief, prepares it for use by taking it to be filled with water. The upgrade will be the largest truck owned by the department.

After makning a detailed prerequisite list and biding their time, the Formoso Fire Department has acquired a fire truck! The truck was purchased in an online auction with a sealed bid through Watts Manufacturing in Salina. An employee of Watts was flown to Pike, New York, and drove the truck back to Kansas.

The truck is a 1994 Ford pumper-tanker with many upgrades for the department. It replaced a 1970 Chevy truck that's output was 500 gallons per minute. This new truck has an output of 1,250 gpm, it's tank holds 1,500 gallons and it has a 1,000 gallon portable canvas tank as well. While not t...
