Cardboard boat race has become a popular event at the Nelson Fun Day

Over the last six years, the cardboard boat race has become a popular event at the Nelson Fun Day! This year the contest had 13 entries. Contestants build a boat from only cardboard and duct tape, and see who can be the first across the pool without sinking, while lifeguards stand by in the water to assist anyone who goes overboard. This year five dollar gift cards were awarded to the top three in each heat with the first place winner also receiving a stick of Starburst candy. Other trinkets were given to contestants for participating.
