Superior parks master plan looks into the future

Five Rule Planning and Olson Associates unveiled on Thursday afternoon the long-range plan they are preparing for the future development of Superior’s City Park and Lincoln Park.

Once finalized, the plans are to serve as a guidebook the park board and city council may use when considering upgrades or the replacement of existing features. The plans are not to be considered finalize plans with a construction timetable.

Those attending the open house at the Nuckolls County Museum located in City Park were asked to express their reactions to the proposals.

Planners said they tried to group similar activities and bring a more unified plan to the parks.

Some of the major changes include locating a splash pad in Lincoln Park and building an aquatic center on what is now the City Park T-ball field. An expanded dog park feature would be returned to Lincoln Park and the football field would likely be moved to an undetermined location.

The existing swimming pool bath house would become a recreation center. The band shell while still located along Sixth Street would be in a more central part of the park. The Andersen War Memorial would be relocated to the space now occupied by the band shell.

Before presenting a completed plan the planners said they would consider the comments received Thursday afternoon.
