The Jewell County Cinema, Inc. (JCCI) Board met June 27. The meeting was held by ZOOM and in person at the Mankato Christian Church.

Members present were Thadd Hinkle, Phyllis Christie, Janis McDill, Sarah Ortman, Kristin Underwood and Virgil and Linda Jones. Lisa Goodheart and Abby Elkins attended by ZOOM.

The minutes of the May meeting were accepted as presented. Janis McDill presented the treasurer’s report. She stated “Top Gun: Maverick” brought in $1,293.50.

Discussion was held on the ice cream social. Lisa Goodheart said she had not heard from RHHS whether or not Aug. 20 had been approved. Sarah Ortman said she would check on it. Kristin Underwood and Jennifer Urbaniak will solicit prizes and manage them during the social. Phyllis Christie said she will be a cashier, and Virgil and Linda said they will be there to help wherever they are needed. Thadd Hinkle said he is working on replacing broken tubes on the marquee. More volunteers are needed to run the theater.

In new business, Abby Elkins said she is representing Jewell County Health 365. They would like to help the theater. She suggested business ads that would run before the movie begins could bring in additional revenue. The board agreed but are not sure how to accomplish that. Abby said she would volunteer to contact other theaters that are similar to the UTE to see how they create and show the ads.

Kristin Underwood asked to show a DVD for a family birthday party on July 5. She offered to pay the $50 deposit, bring their own concessions and donate to the theater. The board approved the request.

Some patrons are asking for smaller candy choices. Phyllis Christie will check her sources to see what she can provide.

Discussion was held on raising prices and the matter was tabled until the next meeting. Discussion was held on the movies that are newly released, Janis McDill will look into obtaining “Elvis” and “Lightyear” for July and August. Contact Phyllis if you are interested in volunteering.
