Lawn mower loses its owner near park

Over the years this newspaper has printed stories about many lost things. Sometimes the lost animal or article is recovered, sometimes not. The largest lost story involved a boulder that fell off a truck. It was so big the city’s front end loader was required to move it off the street.

It wasn’t long after the boulder was found laying in the street that its owner was found and reunited with the boulder which was being transported from the mountains to a new home in Nebraska.

This week we have a different kind of lost story to publish.

Carrie Lemke, an assistant in the Superior Police Department office, reported on Monday a rider mower was first observed sitting on Seventh Street. Monday it had moved to the T-ball field east of the Superior Municipal Swimming Pool. Lemke asked the owner to please come and get the mower.

The story about the lost mower has evoked a number of comments.

When Carrie was asked if it could be trapped humanely, she reported it was pretty friendly and could be easily caught. In fact, she expected it would just sit and wait to be caught.

It was suggested it might be easier to capture the mower if it was offered a cup of gasoline.

Another person, upon learning about the lost mower which apparently has been on the loose for a week or more said, “I’ve never seen one in the wild before.”

None of the of the people commenting on the story addressed the real question which is, “Did the owner lose the mower or did the mower lose its owner.”
