The 2022 Superior High School football team opened practice Monday. Because of the non-football season weather of 100 plus degrees, practice was held Tuesday morning. The 23 players and their coaches worked through a no-pads routine for the week. The team opens their season at home against Alma, Friday, Aug. 19.
The weather may not have an autumnal feel but there is football in the air. The 2022 edition of the Superior Wildcats opened practice Monday at the fiIeld at the Wildcat Community Track. Hotter than normal days have moved some practices from the evening to morning hours.
There is one big change for Superior this season. They will no longer compete in the 11-man C-2 division. They have stepped down to 8-man D-1 play. The lack of players and concern for their safety prompted the move. The downside is Superior is ineligible for a post-season playoff berth.
