Gehrt Dickman

Gehrt Lynn Dickman, 69, son of Gehrt Thomas and Doris Mae (Probert) Dickman, died at Hansen, Neb.

Gehrt was born Dec. 16, 1952, in Sargent, Neb., and lived there until the fall of 1965. The family moved to Red Cloud, Neb., where he graduated from Red Cloud High School in 1972. Following high school he worked at Dutton Lainson and Abbotts Dairy. He started his trucking career with Sibert Trucking of Red Cloud, and went on to haul for Jensby Livestock Trucking Inc, NSG Trucking, Justa Trucking and Dickman Transfer, then ran his own trucking company (Dickman Transportation), and worked for Gottsch Feed Yard a couple different times throughout the years. He hauled everything from limestone to salt, grain, swinging meat, freight, corn, livestock and retired hauling fuel for Casey’s in February 2022, logging more than 6 million miles across the continental United States.

He married Paula (Johnson) Oct. 18, 1972, and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year, although being together for 54 years. During their union they were blessed with three children. He liked time with his family.

Gehrt’s passion for cars was endless; from car shows to stock car races, and tinkering on and owning approximately 40 vehicles in his lifetime. He enjoyed speed, getting his hands dirty, and admired the shine and flake of the paint on a well kept vehicle.

Gehrt is survived by is wife, Paula; daughters, Mrs. Greg Hoffman (Misty) of Polk, Mrs. Matt Jurgena (Wyndi)

of Hastings, and son, Gehrt J. Dickman of Callaway, Neb.; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; his mother, Doris Dickman; and sisters, Sue Mattison and Sally Dickman. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Gehrt T. Dickman; and sisters, Sonja Dickman and Sandra Okerman.

His funeral was Aug. 5, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings with Fr. Douglas Daro officiating.

Interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Red Cloud.
