Fifty-one descendants of Alley and Wilford Riley Porter joined together for a picnic at the Nelson Park, Sunday, Aug. 16. They had a cooperative dinner and reminisced with many stories of the second generation. They were Owen Pierce Porter (1898 - 1986), Nora Marie (Porter) Troudt (1900 - 1998), Nina Mae (Porter) Bruce (1902 - 2003), Velma (Porter) McKevitt (1904 - 1988), and Wilford Raymond Porter (1908 - 1971). All five surviving of the third generation were in attendance. They are Darlene (Porter) Shaw of Edgar and Phyllis (Porter) O’Dey of Hastings, daughters of Owen Pierce, Marlys (Troudt) Jensen of Superior and Donna (Troudt) Jensen of Superior, daughters of Nora Marie and Wilford Ronald Porter of Nelson, son of Wilford Raymond.

There has always been a special bond between the Porter family and all agree that: Families are like branches on a tree. We all grow in different directions, yet our roots remain as one!
