The Superior High School girls golf team opened their season Friday at the Central City Scramble played at the Valley View Golf Course. The event was pushed to Friday from its originally scheduled play date of Thursday because of a conflicting event.

Superior finished in second place in the eight team field. The scramble format is where the team captain chooses the best shot of the team players. Each player then hits the ball from the same spot.

First place finisher, Grand Island Central Catholic, set a tournament record with their round of 67. Superior recorded a round of 72 from Haley Blackstone, Rayne Biltoft and Neah McMeen. Nadia McMeen and Lauren Tietjen recorded a round of 97 in the junior varsity bracket.

The team visited the Indianhead Golf Course in Grand Island for the Doniphan-Trumbull Invitational Monday. There were 10 teams in the field. Superior finished in fifth place in the 18-hole tournament with a team score of 419. Grand Island Central Catholic took top honors with their team score of 372.

The four lowest individual scores comprise the team total. Haley Blackstone carded a round of 92, good fore sixth place in the individual standings. Neah McMeen was in with a round of 101 and an 11th place finish. Nadia McMeen was in with a round of 107. Rayne Biltoft shot an uncharacteristic round of 119. Tietjen played her first 18-hole event and had a round of 137.

The Wildcats travel to Kearney for Kearney Catholic Invitational today, ( Thursday).
