Eugene Kuhlmann

Eugene Fredrick Kuhlmann, the son of Wilbert Kuhlmann and Elsie (Rahe) Kuhlmann, was born Feb.12, 1934, in Chester. He died Aug. 29, 2022, at the Blue Valley Lutheran Home, Hebron, at the age of 88 years, 6 months, and 17 days.

Gene grew up and received his education in Chester, graduating from Chester High School. Gene served with the U. S. Army from 1956 until 1958, serving in Germany. Following his discharge, Gene held various positions at the grain elevator in Byron. He made his home in Chester his entire life.

On July 5, 1956, he was united in marriage to LaNita Gray and to this union was born: Danny Gene Kuhlmann. The couple was later divorced, but remained friends.

Gene was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Chester. In his high school days, he played six-man football and also basketball at Chester. He held the state high jump record for Nebraska for several years. Gene refereed area high school basketball and football games for several years.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Elsie Kuhlmann.

Gene is survived by his son, Danny G. (Kathi) Kuhlmann of Centennial, Colo .; cousins: Karis Kuhlmann, Scott Kuhlmann, Michelle Kuhlmann Dinkel, Rob Kuhlmann and Randy Rahe; other relatives and friends.

His funeral was held at 2 p.m., Sept. 1, at St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, with Pastor Greg Schaffer, officiating.

Interment was at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, near Chester.

Memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church.
