RHHS volleyball goes 0-5

It's a case of not quite enough for the Rock Hills High School volleyball team. In their past five matches they won at least one set but were unable to scale the summit of winning the second set and the match.

The Grizzlies hosted Osborne and Thunder Ridge at Mankato Tuesday for a triangular match. Osborne won in three set, 25-23, 27-25 and 25-14. Thunder Ridge took three sets, 15-25, 25-15 and 25-15, to down Rock Hills. The Grizlies stay close in all their matches but just not quite enough.

It was more the same Saturday at the Solomon Tournament. The Grizzlies fell to Peabody-Burns in three sets, 25-23, 8-25 and 18-25. Tescott handed the Grizzlies a three-set, 12-25, 25-21, 16-25, loss. Solomon swept the match, 16-25 and 14-25, in two sets.

The losses left Rock Hills with a 1-5 record for the season which could have easily been a 4-1 record. .

Rock Hills played Tescott and Southern Cloud at the Tescott triangular Tuesday with match results unavailable at press trime.

Lauren Whelchel led the Rock Hills kill list against Thunder Ridge with six. Danica Frost contributed five kills. Austyn Groote and Halle Mizner added three kills each. Hannah Simmelink finished with two kills. Haley Garst, Groote, Mizner and Simmelink each scored with an ace. Groote took credit for nine digs. Aubree Whelchel handled seven digs. Frost popped up three digs. Selena Luong, Groote, Garst, Simmelink and Ally Beck had two digs apiece. Mizner had one dig.

L. Whelchel made five kills against Osborne. Frost joined in with three kills. Mizner and A. Whelchel added two kills apiece. Garst scored three aces. Garst racked up seven digs. Frost and Luong each made six digs. Simmelink was good for five digs. L. Whelchel had two digs.

The Grizzlies return to Tescott, Saturday for the Tescott Tournament with teams to be announced. Rock Hills hosts a triangular match with St. John's-Tipton and Lakeside at Mankato Tuesday.
