James "Jim" A. McCartney, 83 years of age, of Odell died Friday, Sept. 23, 2022, at Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center in Beatrice. He was born on Oct. 6, 1938, near Angus to Merton and Beulah (Skinner) McCartney. Jim graduated from Nelson High School in 1956 and served his country for more than 3 years in the United States Air Force. He married Nola Biltoft on Dec. 30, 1962, in Angus. Jim attended Fairbury Junior College before earning his bachelor's degree from Kearney State College in 1966. He retired after 34 years from Odell Public Schools where he taught industrial arts, driver's education and drove a school bus. Jim spent many years coaching girls softball with Allen "Red" Kostal. He was a member of the Odell United Methodist Church in Odell where he held many positions and the Odell Rural Fire Department. Jim enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


Jim is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Nola; daughters, Rhonda Theasmeyer and husband, Randy of Beatrice, Michele Graham and husband, Stephen of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; grandchildren, Justin Theasmeyer, Jamie Theasmeyer, Kaleb Theasmeyer and significant other, Jennifer Brown, Alexis Dvorak and significant other, Seth; great-grandchildren, Atley, Layney, Braxtyn, Harper, Brooklyn, Abel, Ashton; brother, Connie McCartney of Grand Island; sisters-in-law, Willa McCartney of Edgar, Connie Nickel, Linda Poppe and husband Gilbert, both of St. Paul, Shirley Wegener and husband Richard of Dewy, Arizona, Iona Biltoft of Ruskin, Carol Yost and husband Steve of Clay Center, Neb .; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kent McCartney; sister, Phyllis Baker; sister-in-law, Mary McCartney; and brothers-in-law, Larry Biltoft and Gerald Biltoft.

His funeral was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice with Pastor Hollis Patterson officiating. Private family inurnment was held at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, in the Lanham Cemetery in Lanham, Kan. There was no viewing but a register book was available on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials were suggested to the family's choice in care of the mortuary. Condolences may be left online at http://www.harman wrightmortuary.com. Harman-Wright Mortuary & Crematory in Beatrice was in charge of arrangements.
