L-N volleyball goes 1-4 at tourney

It was a rough outing for the Lawrence-Nelson volleyball team at the Hastings St. Cecilia Tournament. The Raiders fell in four of their matches to higher classification schools.

Intra-county rival, Superior, handed the Raiders a two-set, 15-25 and 15-25, loss in their opening game. The Raiders bounced back to down Wood River 25-19 and 25-21, in two sets. Host Hastings St. Cecilia handed the Raiders a two-set 16-25 and 25-27, loss. Heartland swept the Raiders 29-25 and 18-25, in two sets. Cross County downed Lawrence-Nelson 19-25 and 14-25, in two sets.

Lawrence-Nelson played Red Cloud and Kenesaw in a triangular match at Red Cloud Tuesday. Match results were unavailable at press time.

Kara Menke topped the kill list against Superior with five. Sydney Biltoft and Katelyn Mazour added three kills apiece. Claire Himmelberg and Emily Troudt tallied two kills each. Hanna Skinner had a kill. Mazour and Skinner each scored with an ace. Skinner cleaned up 11 digs. Himmelberg contributed seven digs. Mazour and Menke were good for six digs apiece. Addi McCloskey recorded three digs for the Raiders. Jessica Sole and Troudt had two digs each.


Menke topped the kill list against Wood River with seven. Troudt jammed down five kills. Mazour notched four kills. Biltoft and Skinner added three kills apiece for the Raiders. Himmelberg and Sole had a kill each. Biltoft sliced through three aces. Menke lashed through two aces, Troudt scored an ace. Menke cleaned up with 10 digs. Sole joined in with seven digs. Mazour and Skinner registered five digs each. McCloskey set up three digs. Troudt fielded two digs.


Menke and Skinner accounted for five kills each against Hastings St. Cecilia. Troudt came through with three kills. Biltoft and Mazour had two kills each. Himmelberg, Mazour and Troudt each scored with an ace. Biltoft came up with eight digs. Himmelberg took credit for seven digs. Mazour collected six digs. Sole landed three digs. Troudt had two digs.

Skinner led the killer against heartland with six. Biltoft and Troudt punched down four kills apiece, Mazour added three kills. Menke had a kill. Biltoft and Mazour struck with two aces apiece, Troudt laced through an ace. Biltoft accumulated 12 digs. Menke reported eight digs. Mazour and Skinner came through with seven digs each. Sole landed four digs. Himmelberg had two digs.

Troudt put away five kills against Cross County. Skinner jammed down four kills. Menke was good for three digs. Himmelberg posted three kills. Biltoft had a kill. Himmelberg and Mazour slapped through and ace apiece. Mazour cleared 11 digs. Biltoft and Skinner listed six digs each. Himmelberg and Menke added three digs apiece. Sole posted two digs.

The Raiders host the Blue Hill Bobcats for Parents Night at Nelson Tuesday.
