Carole A Thompson, the daughter of Wayne and Lucille (Grauerholtz) Schoeni, was born on May 19, 1942, in Smith Center, Kan. She died on October 8, 2022, at Brodstone Healthcare at Superior, Neb., at the age of 80 years, 4 months, 19 days.

Carole was proud to be the drum majorette for two years at Kensington (Kansas) High School for the Gold Bugs Marching Band. She worked 30 years as a hairdresser, after graduating from Salina, Kansas Beauty Academy, even owning her own shop at one time. She traveled to other towns to help beauticians in neighboring communities, when she was needed.

Bowling was a favorite competitive sport for her and she qualified for and participated in state bowling for several years. She was involved in United Methodist Women group and served as president, for many years. She earned Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Organization, something else she was honored to achieve.

Volunteering was important to Carole and she chose to share her time at the Vestey Center, where she helped care for many friends and community members, including her late mother-in law, Athelda.

Throughout many happy years, she and Eldon enjoyed various card clubs, going fishing and crop tours during the fall, attending many of their grand daughter, nieces, nephews and family friends' children's events including proms, concerts, plays, sporting events and other school activities.

In recent years, she became quite supportive of Eldon's trap shoots. She waited all day long, just to meet him at the back door, to see how well he did. She accepted and guarded all of his trophies and was quick to share with anyone who wanted to see them. Throughout their wonderful years of marriage, Eldon was always with Carole and Carole was always with Eldon. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and Carole's 80th birthday in May of this year, with a big celebration, attended by many friends in Superior. A special past time for Carole and Eldon was making their annual Arizona trip, where they formed a community of friends, whom they keep in touch with, on a regular basis.

One of Carole's pride and joys was her self-named 'Bird Feed' where she baked up all of the chukar and pheasants Eldon and Jon or other friends had shot. The menu was always the same. Bird, rice, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans with onion and bacon. She finished it off with her amazing chocolate sheet cake, which we still don't have the secret ingredient for. Many people have experienced that feast, which says everything about the type of woman she was.

One of the largest parts of the Thompson family life was the Jon Thompson Racing Team, car No. 75. Carole and Eldon never missed a race and she could be found sporting her team tee shirt, with her stop watch, pen and tiny note pad, taking it all in. The team won the Modified National Title in 2002, which was one of Carole's grandest memories. Her pallbearers are all a part of the pit crew, at some time, which is exactly what she would have wanted, since she considered each of them one of her sons.

Carole was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Lucille; sister, Jan Zeigler and her in-laws, Robert and Athelda.

She is survived by her husband, Eldon; sons, Chris and Jon (Joni Heiland) of Superior, Neb .; siblings Rita (Lloyd) Kleinschmidt of Agra, Kan .; Cheryl Gibbs; Arden Schoeni of Arlington, Texas; granddaughter, Jasmine (Tristan Stock) Thompson of Elm Creek, Neb .; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Carole's funeral is at 11 a.m., today (Thursday) Oct. 13, 2022, from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Neb. with the Rev. Jon Albrecht and the Rev. Becky Sadler officiating.

Music will be "Amazing Grace." "How Great Thou Art," solos by Heath Hoge with Carlita Price as his accompanist and recording "Wind Beneath My Wings."

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m.,on Oct.12, with the family present from 6 to 8 to greet friends.

Pallbearers will be Eric Beard, Travis Cantrell, Jon Combs, Davon Ehlers, Darrin Lanham, Jock Renz and Darren Sjoholm. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Arneson, Larry Blair, Marty Clark, Kaid Dannenberg and Brad Drohman

A private family burial will take place.

Memorials in Carole's honor will be given to Eastern Star Scholarship and Methodist Camperships in assisting children financially to attend church camp.
