Calendar filling with Christmas activities

December 8, 2022

If you haven’t done so already, now is the time to plan to be in downtown Superior between 5 and 7 p.m. on Friday to participate in the Once Upon a Christmas annual event. From the scheduled activities, it appears it will be a festive time to visit with friends and neighbors and see what Superior stores have to offer this holiday season.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus have confirmed they plan to participate. Mrs. Claus will headquarter near Main Street Floral and will have locally made treats for the youngsters. Santa will be seated in the Farmers & Merchants Bank lobby and visiting with the youngsters who come to see him.

There will be treats galore and meal options. Youngsters may jump in the Snow Globe set up near the Vestey Center. There will also be a silent disco at the Vestey Center. There will be cookies to decorate at Ideal Market. A special movie showing for the youngsters at the Crest. Stop by the Chamber of Commerce office to try your hand at the Cash Cube. And you will want to check out the action outside Superior Ace Hardware. You may drop off your gifts at the GTA Insurance Agency where Superior High School students will offer a wrapping service. The Superior High School Choir will be singing Christmas carols.

Youngsters visiting Bloom Street Burgers will receive a free sundae they may decorate.

Once Upon a Christmas is only one of many special events planned for the next few days.

Friday is the last collection day in 2022 for the Nuckolls County Giving Tree. Collection points include Superior Pharmacy, Dollar General, Family Dollar and Dollar Tree, Farmers & Merchants Bank in Lawrence, and the Nelson Post Office.

Secret Santa gifts are being accepted through Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Ideal Market and Superior Ace Hardware.

The Reed Family Christmas Concert will be presented at the Superior Auditorium at 5:30 Sunday afternoon.

Friday and Saturday is the last day this year for hayrack rides through Candy Cane Lane. The wagons will start loading near the Superior School Bus Barn at 5:30 and continue through 8:30 p.m. The repairs made last week to Candy Cane Lane appear to be working and the plan is to have the light display in Lincoln Park open from 6 to 9 p.m. each evening through New Year’s Eve.

The Superior Schools’ Winter Concert will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15.

The season’s third Superior Bucks drawing was held Monday, Winners were Sheri Burkholder, Lori Larsen, Linda Alexander and Shareth Bruning. Each received 50 Superior Bucks. Another drawing will be conducted Monday.

Mike and Deb Worm will again host Christmas in the Barn located on their farm one-half mile east of the Webber Cemetery and three-fourths of a mile south.

Those attending will have an opportunity to hear the Christmas Story read in a barn setting with live animals present, much like that night must have been when Jesus was born. Times include 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14 and 21 and Sunday, Dec. 18. There will also be a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Dec. 18. Additional volunteers are needed to assist with the production.

The Living Faith Church will present Bernie Don’t Do Christmas at 10:30 Sunday morning.

The Union Church of Hardy has a Christmas Eve candlelight service planned for 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24.

And we expect more special events will be announced as the holiday draws near.
