December 22, 2022

A special meeting of the USD 107 Board of Education was held Dec. 14 in the library at the Rock Hills Junior-Senior High School. Those present were, Marc Grout, Brenden Wirth, Wayne Frost, Justin Angleton, Rex Boley, Sam Meyers and Janet Higer.

Guests present were: Garrett Garman of Orazem & Scalora Engineering, Zach Sneathan of HTK, and Mike Hattrup of McCown-Gordon.

Kenny Mizner arrived at 3:09 p.m.

Garrett Garman, Zach Sneathan and Mike Hattrup discussed the junior and senior high HVAC needs. They answered questions from the board. Garman explained how the current system works and the age of the various components as well as the average life expectancies.

Bobi Fogo arrived at 3:15 p.m.

The group toured the boiler room and some other areas at the junior-senior high school. The board approved to have the pipes of the current HVAC system checked to see if they could be used with a new system, or if they need to be replaced.

The board instructed Zach Sneathan of HTK to put a proposal together that would be the most affordable for the following: A two-pipe HVAC system for the junior-senior high building, with a separate option for the kitchen and rooftop units for the gymnasium, with the assumption that the existing pipes will test good. They would like to have this available at the January board meeting.

President Mizner adjourned the meeting from the junior-senior high school building and reconvened at the district office board room.

Gary Sechrist from the Kansas Association of School Boards addressed the board regarding the USD 107, long range planning meetings that were held in October and November. He reviewed information he compiled from both meetings. He led the board through some additional exercises to finalize a vision statement. He will submit his final written report to Superintendent Boley to share with the board.

Boley presented two bids for a replacement dishwasher for the elementary school from Sunflower Restaurant Supply for a Hobart Model No AM16-BASX and also a Hobart Model No AM16T-BASX-2. The second bid was from Buller Fixture Company for a Hobart Model No. AM16T-BASX-2. The board approved the bid from Sunflower Restaurant Supply.

The board went into executive session with no action taken.

The next regular meeting of the USD No. 107 Board of Education will be at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 9, in the board room of the district office.
