Edna Marie Moore, 91, recently of Lenexa, Kansas, died on Dec. 17, 2022.

Edna was born in Rulo, Nebraska, on April 19, 1931, to Charley and Kate Wissman. She was raised on the farm in Rulo until moving to Falls City, Nebraska, in high school. She worked hard, making sure the job was done right.

Edna enjoyed being with her friends and going out to dance. She met Wesley Moore in the early 1950s and would later tell him he'd better like to dance, or she wasn't keeping him around! He must have decided he wanted to dance with her forever, because they were married on May 29, 1955, in Falls City.

Wes and Edna lived in Manhattan, Kansas, while Wes finished college, then moved to Robinson, Kansas, where they worked dairy cows for four years. Once again, this was hard work, but that was nothing new for Edna. It was during this time they had their daughter, Linda Carol.

They stayed for the next six years in Colorado, where Wes was in the Job Corps, adding Todd Earl to the family during that time. At this point, Edna continued working hard, this time raising and keeping up with two small children in three different assignments around Colorado.

In 1967, the family moved to Mankato, Kansas, where Edna built a lifetime of friendships and memories over 40 years. She worked at several businesses all over Mankato, including cleaning at the hotel and the Jewell County Hospital, waitressing, and in her later years she worked at the Melby Mortuary. Edna was also involved in the community of Mankato, actively supporting and volunteering with the Order of Eastern Star and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.- She enjoyed serving Meals on Wheels, visiting with those she served, and making sure the people she served had what they needed. She also volunteered in various capacities as a member of Harmony United Methodist Church, serving wherever she was needed.

Edna enjoyed being of service to others, helping however she could, and doing any job the best that she could. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting and quilting. She used these talents to make hundreds of quilts for Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. She also crocheted blankets and made quilts for family and friends.

Everyone Edna met was special to her. She was interested in learning more about them. She met everyone with a big smile and made sure to ask a few questions to learn more about their story. She didn't judge anyone and everyone was welcome at her table, in her living room, or in her basement in Mankato.

After losing Wes, she moved to Belleville, Kansas, then on to Lenexa, where she stayed the remaining years of her life. She had many visitors during her time in Belleville and Lenexa, friends and family alike, and she enjoyed seeing everyone and staying in touch, making sure to catch up on everyone's lives. Those visits, phone calls, and the multitudes of cards and letters she received were appreciated and special to Edna, allowing her to keep up with all those she loved.

Her greatest joys were always her children, Linda and Todd. She was their loudest cheerleader, biggest supporter, and staunchest defender. When they married their spouses, Edna welcomed them as favored and loved family as well. Edna would do anything in the world for her children, and they would all do the same for her. Once her grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along, Edna enjoyed being a part of their lives. She enjoyed listening to them, advising them, laughing with them, and playing games with them, teaching them how to play by not letting them win!

When the grandchildren and great-grandchildren would share their hopes and dreams and talk about the happenings in their lives, Grandma's favorite phrase to share was "it's your life," and they always knew she was going to support them no matter what.

Edna is survived by her children: Dawn (Ron) Pfeiffer of Greeley, Colorado; Linda (Jim) Towe of Cabot, Arkansas; and Todd (Stephanie) Moore of Lenexa, Kansas; her grandchildren: Tim (Jenneke) Towe; Brian (Jeniffer) Pfeiffer; Brent (Deidre) Pfeiffer; Jessica Everson; Emily Towe; Shannon Moore; and Sarah Moore; and her great-grandchildren: Jack Towe; Adam Pfeiffer; Evan Pfeiffer; Duane Pfeiffer; Laila Mayhair; Tommy Bloomfield; Charlotte Bloomfield; Zoey Pfeiffer; and Ava Pfeiffer; as well as her nieces and nephews who brought her so much joy.

Preceeding her in death was her husband, Wes Moore; her siblings, Dorothy Lippold, Irene Colgrove, and Walter Wissman; as well as nieces, nephews, family, and friends she lost too soon.

Her funeral was held at 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 23, at Harmony United Methodist Church in Mankato, with Pastor Jim Rice officiating. Interment followed at Mount Hope Cemetery in Mankato.

Visitation was from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 22, at Melby Mortuary.

The family requests the memorial gifts be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, Harmony United Methodist Church Bell Choir in Mankato, Kansas, or any fire station of your choice, and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
