will host Memorial Day services

 


The Lawrence American Legion Post 45 will host Memorial Day services at five cemeteries Monday, May 29. The approximate schedule is:

Sacred Heart Cemetery 9:15 a.m.

St. Stephens Cemetery 9:35 a.m.

Evergreen Cemetery 10:05 a.m.

Rosemont Cemetery 10:25 a.m.

Oak Creek Cemetery 10:45 a.m.

Flag installation for three cemeteries will commence at 7 a.m. at the Legion Hall.

All Legion, Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion who wish to join in cemetery procession, please be in town by 8:30 a.m. Legion and Son members are asked to wear dark slacks and white shirts.

The procession to cemeteries will leave the Lawrence Legion Hall promptly at 9 a.m. for Sacred Heart where an address will be given by the Commander. The Chaplain will offer the prayer. Soldiers’ graves will be decorated. A salute will be given to the dead by the Firing Squad. The ceremony will be concluded with the Bugler playing Taps.


The official party will then proceed to the other cemeteries.

Following the ceremonies at all the cemeteries, Legion members are invited to the legion hall to participate in a “covered dish” meal. Everyone is asked to bring a dish of choice.

Meat, potatoes, buns and drink will be provided.

Following the Flag ceremonies, the American Legion Club will be open to the public. Refreshments will be served from 4 to 8 p.m. Burgers and fries will be served from 5 to 7 p.m.
