Lawrence resident Edward William Ostdiek, 71, died on July 29, 2024, at his home in Lawrence, Nebraska. Rosary was at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug., 3, 2024, and Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024, 10:30 a.m. both at St. Stephens Catholic Church, Lawrence, with Father Denton Morris officiating. Inurnment was in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Lawrence. His wishes were to be cremated. A memorial was established to be designated at a later date. Edward William Ostdiek was born on Nov. 5, 1952 in Nelson, to Herman and Irene (Schroer) Ostdiek. He lived his childhood years on their farm near Mount Clare where he attended St. Stephen's Catholic School. They later moved to Lawrence, where he attended and graduated from Lawrence Public School. Ed graduated from Central Community College in Hastings with a degree in automotive technology.
On Nov. 3, 1979, Ed was united in marriage to Linda Mazour. Together they made their home in Lawrence, where they raised their five children. Ed worked as an auto mechanic for many years. He owned and operated Ed's Repair in Lawrence. Early in his adult life, he was diagnosed with a challenging disease that made it difficult for him to continue his mechanic career. Ed transitioned to working with small engines and was an Arien's lawn mower dealer for the remainder of his working years. You could always find Ed working on something in his shop with his dog, Buddy, by his side. He enjoyed being outdoors and took great pride in his lawn and garden. Ed was a member of the Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department where he served as chief for several years before retiring. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, Lawrence Son's of the American Legion and Sacred Heart Church.
Ed is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Amy (Scott) Roth of Smith Center, Kansas, Michael (Jenee Kucera) Ostdiek of Lincoln, Nebraska, Lisa (Brett) Peterson of Lawrence, Christa Ostdiek of Sherman Oaks, California and Shane Ostdiek of Lawrence; brothers, John Ostdiek, Ray (Lois) Ostdiek of Lawrence; sisters Marge (Craig) Buescher of South Bend, Nebraska, Marie (Ron) Herbek of Deweese, Nebraska and sister in-law, Helen Ostdiek of David City, Nebraska; mother in-law, Rita Mazour, Lawrence; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Larry (Donna) Mazour, Lawrence, Lonnie (Sandy) Mazour, Trumbull; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lori (Phil) Dechow, Gretna; his beloved grandchildren, Kynlee, Easton and Raegan Peterson, Avery Roth and Charlie Schroeder, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Irene Ostdiek; brothers, Vern Ostdiek and Frank Ostdiek; nephew, Cory Ostdiek; father in-law, Jerome Mazour.
