Yes, the pelicans have returned to Lovewell Lake. This photo was shot from the dry boat ramp in the cabin area. Pelicans lined the north shore and also fished from what will soon become an island directly to the south. A long-time lake observer said, "The lake had more water in it than I expected." Sometimes by late August huge mudflats can been seen from the shore line. Often it seems people leave with the beginning of school and the pelicans return to fish and rest for the remainder of the journey the the Gulf of Mexico. They are sometimes known to stay in Kansas until December....
