Sewer projects continue in Burr Oak, Esbon and Mankato

The Jewell County commissioners met Monday, Sept. 16. Commissioners Ed Duskie and Brent Beck were present. Myka Zadina and Carla Waugh were also present for the meeting.

John Shea, NCRPC executive director, said they have current sewer projects in Burr Oak, Esbon and Mankato. They are in phase two of a grant for the US Department of Transportation to help pay for bridge inspections. The current programs they have are homeland security, business finance program and a housing program. He also said they have quarterly meetings.

The commissioners approved the 2024 designation of emergency vehicles for Adam Badger, Brian Badger and Brian Shulda.

Brian and Angela Murray were present for the pre-proposal lawn meeting.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, discussed building a fence by the old county shop. He said Caterpillar Services looked at the excavator and will be sending a quote for the insurance claim. He also said the John Deere track hoe needs a bigger weight on the back, so it doesn’t tip over. He said Champlin hauled off two loads of used tires.

The commissioners and Myka Zadina attended the multi-county meeting hosted by Mitchell County at the Mitchell County Fair Building. They discussed topics like budgets, health insurance, transmission lines and the primary election.
