With plenty fuel left from wet summer grass fire flares

Recently, members of the Superior Fire Department fought fires about every other day, so a light rain Sunday night was a welcome relief.

After several busy days for area fire departments, Monday morning's rain and cooler temperatures were welcome.

Saturday afternoon two fires were reported in the Byron area at about the same time, one was southeast of town and the other northwest of town. Fire departments from Superior, Hardy, Republic and Ruskin were among those responding to help contain the fires. One was thought to have been started by a power line, the other from an ember left from a planned fire several days earlier.
