County residents asking for ballots

April 16, 2020

More than 800 Nuckolls County voters have indicated they don’t plan to go to the polls to cast their ballots in the May 12 primary election. Instead they have asked to have their ballots mailed to them.

The county clerk’s office crew is now processing the applications and mailing out the requested ballots. Some have already been returned.

All registered voters have been sent applications and the county’s two newspapers have published the forms.

Before the first of May, the county expects to have a drop box conveniently located in the courthouse parking lot where ballots may be left. Ballots may also be mailed back. They must reach the courthouse before the polls close at 8 p,m. on May 12.

The county continues to struggle trying to find poll workers. It is likely that some polling places may be combined. We expect to publish an announcement about the changes in polling places prior to the election.
