Superior opens parks, library

A crew of men removed shingles at the Superior Public Library Thursday and replaced them with new shingles Friday. It is the first time the library has been reshingled since it was built.

Reopening of Superior following the pandemic closing moved a step closer Monday evening when members of the Superior City Council voted unanimously to loosen the restrictions on access to the city office, public library, and city parks.

Effective this week the library is open from 1:30 to 7:30 Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The shortened hours will allow the staff time to disinfect the library before opening the next day. Although library patrons are welcome to enter and use the library the staff has asked that patrons no "hangout in the library. Visitors are asked to wear a mask and to not come to the library is they are not feeling well.

The library will continue to offer curb-side pickup and delivery.

In other action the council updated the customer charge schedule for city equipment. Hourly rates for rental of equipment were based on rates set by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Operator charges were based on the current salary and benefit schedule. This is the first changed in the schedule since 2002.

After being a bit more lenient during the pandemic shutdown, the council directed the utility departments to return to the previous policies related to the dealing with delinquent accounts.
