Duane McCauley

Duane Harold McCauley, 65, formerly of Edgar, was born Aug. 20, 1954, to Harold and Jennie (Hoffman) McCauley at Fairfield. He died June 4, at Sutton when a parked pickup truck with a stock trailer rolled backward and hit him. He was checking to see if the lights were working and asked a friend to turn the key of the pickup on. The truck was in gear and rolled backward hitting him.

Duane was raised with three sisters; Vivian, Chris, and Donita on a farm outside of Edgar. Duane graduated from Clay Center High School. After attending college and moving back into the Edgar area, he met and married Susan Neighbors on Aug. 26, 1983. They went on to expand their family with the birth of their son, Cody and daughter, Jacy.

Duane worked many years driving his semi truck around the countryside before he retired and went back working in the local area. In 2000, Duane suffered an accident that left him disabled.

In his spare time, he enjoyed country music, western movies, going camping, fishing and horse riding. Duane had a love for horses throughout his life which helped him become part of the Saddle Club, a group of people who also enjoyed riding horses and following the Pony Express trails. Duane also was good with helping his friends when they needed an extra hand. He was good to lend a hand but wasn’t good with asking for help when he needed it.

He is survived by his ex-wife. Susan; his children, Cody and Jacy; his two sisters, Chris and Donita; and nieces, Jennie and Heather Roemmich.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., today (Thursday) at the Edgar Cemetery. Pastor David King will officiate.

Williams Funeral Home of Edgar was in charge of the arrangements.
