SHS Wildcats football concedes to Sandy Creek Cougars

Friday, the Superior Wildcats went north to Sandy Creek to take on the Cougars.

In the first quarter, Sandy Creek scored first on a Rodney McDonald one yard run and point after kick.

Superior scored on a 42 yard run by Elijah Heusinkveltt. The point after kick failed. Score was 6 to 7. Next SHS scored on a 33 yard pass from Dane Miller to Zeke Meyer. The two point conversion attempt was unsuccessful. The first quarter ended with Superior leading 12 to 7.

Neither team scored in the second or third quarters. In the fourth quarter, Sandy Creek scored on a McDonald one yard run and another good point after kick. Score was now 12 to 14. Next, the Wildcats scored on a 49 yard pass from Dane Miller to Zeke Meyer. The two point conversion was good. At this point, the score was 20 to 14. The last touchdown of the game was scored by the Cougars on another McDonald one yard run and point after kick. The game ended with Sandy Creek winning 21 to 20.


Coach Paul Heusinkvelt said, "This was a well fought rival game that did not end in our favor. There was a lot of back and forth moments in scoring drivers and many other drives. Some of the biggest highlights were Elijah's big scamper for his first Superior touchdown, a Hail Mary throw from Dane to Zeke Meyer right before half to go up by five points and a late 4th quarter drive that ended with a big throw and catch between Dane and Zeke again.

Statistics: Dane Miller: 4 of 9 passes for 86 yards, 29 yards rushing, eight tackles, one tackle for a loss, one punt return.

Elijah Heusinkvelt: 71 yards rushing on 12 attempts, one touchdown, two fumbles, two pass receptions for tree yards, three tackles, one interception.


Clayton Morris: 67 yards rushing on nine attempts, five tackles, one sack, one tackle for a loss, one kickoff return.

Jordan Brown: 22 yards rushing on one carry, seven tackles, punted four times for 136 yards.

Conner Blackstone: rushed three times for five yards, two tackles, one interception, kicked off three times for 99 yards.

James Love: one rushing carry, three tackles.

Zeke Meyer: received three passes for 82 yards, two touchdowns, four tackles.

Anders Webber: four tackles, one sack, two tackles for a loss, Collision Player of the Game.

Ty Boller: four tackles.

Jake Meyer: seven tackles, one kick off return.

Seth Schnakenberg: six tackles, recovered one fumble.

Payton Christiancy: four tackles, one sack, one tackle for a loss.

Aiden Humphries: one kickoff for 36 yards.

The Wildcats next game is Friday at Fillmore Central.
