Bernard Whitehead

Bernard D. Whitehead was born Feb. 3, 1934, in Franklin, Neb. He died Nov. 26, 2020, in Plainfield, Ill.

Bernard was a 1952 Nelson High School graduate. After graduation, he joined the US Navy and served from 1952 to 1956. He cared for his country and the Navy. He was an electrician for 60 years in Chicage Land Area. He had the pleasure of going on the “Honor Flight Chicago” to Washington, D.C. on June 6, 2018.

Bernard was united in marriage to Veda Joy Parsons at the Methodist Church in Superior, on Dec. 30, 1956. To this union four sons were born: Curtis, Michael, Kerry and Corey. Barney enjoyed all sports, attending his grandchildren’s games, traveling, golf, fishing and time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Mae (Rundquist) Whitehead; sisters, Charledeen Watson, Daphna Corman, Beverly Whartman, Donna Feehan and Sandra Rogers; brother, Maynard Whitehead; and grandson, Jeremy Whitehead.

Bernard is survived by his wife, Veda; sons, Curtis of Midlothian, Ill, Michael of Wayne, Ill, Kerry of Martinsburg, W.V. and Corey of Yorkville, Ill; five grandchildren;ß and 14 great-grandchildren.

Bernard will be buried at the Abraham Lincoln VA Cemetery at a later date.
