Five Superior High School wrestlers advanced to the state tournament in Omaha from the Class D, District 2 meet held at Elkhorn Valley High School, Tilden, Saturday. Superior finished in sixth place, with 76.5 points in the 19 team field. Other schools at the meet were Southwest, Twin Loup, Elkhorn Valley, Burwell, Litchfiel‑d, Palmer, Freeman, Brady, Red Cloud-Blue Hill, Doniphan-Trumbull, Pope John, Meridian, Pleasanton. Shelton, West Holt, Osmond, St. Mary's and Niobara Verdigre.

The state tournament got underway Wednesday at the CHI Health center in Omaha.

Hayden Neeman took top honors once again in the 106 pound weight bracket. His first place finish earned 21.5 team points and earned him a place at state.

Brett Miller wrestled at 113 pounds. He did not place well enough to advance out of the district meet.

Aaron Allgood is on his way to Omaha with his third place finish in the 138 pound weight bracket. He earned 14 team points for the Wildcats.

Tyler Everhart wrestled in the 145 pound weight bracket. He did not advance out of the district round.

Jordan Brown took fourth place and earned a trip to state in the 182 pound weight bracket. He earned 9 team points.

Anders Webber will be going to Omaha. His third place finish in the 220 pound weight bracket earned him 14 team points and a trip to state.

Payton Christiancy continued his impressive run in the 285 pound weight bracket with a second place finish and a berth at the state tournament. He scored 18 points.

The state tournament format has been reconfigured because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Class D matches were scheduled for Wednesday and today (Thursday). The quarter-finals and consolation rounds one and two were scheduled for Wednesday. Weigh-ins are at 3:30 p.m. Matches begin at 5 p.m. Results will be available on the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) website.

Seth Going, head wrestling coach of the Wildcats, said, "We had a great showing at the district tournament. We, as coaches, are excited to serve these guys. Our guys will be ready and hope to bring home some top medals. It's one match at a time from here on out."

Wrestlers who advance from the quarter-final round will compete today (Thursday). Weigh-ins will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Semi-finals, consolation round three and consolation semi-finals will get underway at 1 p.m. The championship final round matches will begin at 7 p.m.
