Rock Hills Board of Education met on April 5, for a special meeting. Those present were Kenny Mizner, Brenden Wirth, Marc Grout, Brandon Hollerich (Zoom), Bobi Fogo (Zoom), Rex Boley and Janet Higer. Mr. Boley addressed the board concerning the mask policy. He informed the board on March 29, the Jewell County commissioners in conjunction with the Jewell County Health Department signed Resolution 21-04. This resolution stated the full scope of the Governor’s Executive Orders 20-68 is no longer necessary to protect the public health and safety of Jewell County, Kansas. In addition, Senate Bill SB 40 was passed and signed by Governor Kelly and took affect March 25. This put the decisions during state of disaster emergency to the pandemic on local school boards. It also holds local school boards to the standard of keeping everyone safe and educating students, but having to do it in the “Least Restrictive” way.

Mr. Boley’s recommendation was as follows: Beginning Tuesday, April 6, he strongly recommends the wearing of mask-face covers by students and staff, especially for those individuals who have not been fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Masks will not be required by students, staff and patrons on school grounds. The district will reserve the right to re-implement the re-opening mask plan if conditions warrant the need. This does not supersede guidelines placed for KSHSAA sanctioned events. The recommendation was approved by the board.

The next regular meeting of the USD No. 107 Board of Education will be 1 p.m., April 12, in the board room of the District Office at 109 E Main Street, Mankato.
