Co. board has 45 days to find replacement

The Nuckolls County Board of Commissioners met at the county courthouse in Nelson Monday. The board acknowledged the death of James “Pete” Keifer which has created a vacancy on the board. John Hodge, county attorney, and Carrie Miller, county clerk, advised the board as to how the vacancy will be filled.

The county road department reported a new tractor was to be delivered by the end of the week. The department has an opening for a full-time employee. Applications are available from the road department.

Ed Knott, a representative from Applied Connective, gave a presentation to the board regarding email security. He advised the board that other cyber security measures are also provided by the company.

Tim Zikmund and Dave Mussman performed a walk through of the building with Royce Gonzales, clerk of the district court, as members of the safety committee.

The board discussed salary increases for elected officials. The compensation rates are set every four years. The new rates will go into effect in 2023. No action was taken.

The board will meet at 8:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 15. The courthouse will be closed, Thursday, Nov. 11, for the observance of Veterans Day.`
