L-N Raider Volleyball season ends with 17-15 record

The 2021 High School Volleyball season is now safely in the record books with the State Tournament just completed. L-N ended the season in the District Finals with a won-loss record of 17-15.

This year the Lady Raiders were led by four seniors, a couple of juniors, a lone sophomores and a couple of freshmen. They met the usual array of higher Class teams, in fact, 20 of the 32 games were against Class D-1 or C-2 teams. L-N did well against the D-2 teams but could not be consistent against all of the larger Class team. Six of the opponents ended up in the State Tournament.

With the senior class graduations, the team will see a lot of the offensive power also leave, but enough underclassmen earned a lot of experience this year that the next year’s team could pick up easily where this year left off.

The girls played a total of 89 Sets throughout the season with five girls playing in all 89. The season statistics are as follows:

Kills – Aces – Digs: Sydney Biltoft 98-0-36; Aleah Heikkinen 171-30-248; Emma Epley 281-53-233; Elsa Jorgensen 6-37-348; Katelyn Mazour 58-29-227; Emily Troudt 25-7-28; Hanna Skinner 4-28-187; Kylie Beard 54-13-66; Kara Menke 143-3-78.

Assists: Katelyn handled 1,225 balls this season with only 8 errors. She was credited with 402 Assists; Emma had 771 attempts with 11 errors and 214 Assists to her credit.

Blocks: These were rare early in the season, but the team got better at blocks as the season progressed. Sydney was credited with 64 total blocks, 15 Solo and 49 Assists. Aleah had a total of 34 with 8 Solo and 26 Assists. Emma had 5 Solo and 21 Assists; Kylie 0 Solo and 29 Assists and Kara 2 Solo and 22 Assists.

Serve Receive: leading this defensive statistic was Elsa who had 663 Serve Receives with only 47 errors; Aleah had 379 with 31 errors; Hanna 282 with 32 errors; Emma 141 with 17 errors; Sydney 77 with 7 errors; Katelyn 71 with 9 errors; Emily 21 with 6 errors

Head coach, Nolan Kawata experienced his first year as a high school volleyball coach as well.
