Love my Crazy Life

December 2, 2021

Thanksgiving has always been a crazy one for this family. Normally, George has his boys, my boys go to their dad’s house and we provide transportation for both. One year drop-off and pick-up were all on the same days, and they are in opposite directions! George’s boys live in Omaha, and I meet Jacob’s dad near Manhattan Kan., which is halfway. So we drove one boy down into Kansas and then headed to Omaha and then home. It makes for a long day. This year we had the Omaha boys the weekend before. Pick up was Friday and drop-off on Sunday. Jacob was dropped off on Wednesday, and picked up on Sunday. Honestly, I don’t want to sit in my car for at least another month.

Dean (Robert and Jacob’s dad) has had the boys for Thanksgiving for 10 plus years. His court-granted holiday was Christmas, but I was more than happy to trade. The boys have had many Thanksgiving days in a tree stand, hoping to get that trophy buck they see every spring in the woods surrounding their father’s home. This year Jacob had his sights set, quite literally on that very buck. He released his arrow only to have it graze a small tree branch he didn’t see at first, and the arrow landed at the feet of the beast. With that said, we shall never speak of it again. LOL!

Things in the “Money Pit” are moving along, I wish faster, but we are getting there. We still plan to move in before Christmas. This may be Jacob’s last Christmas home for a while, so I would like the holiday to be shared in our forever home. He is excited about having a bigger bedroom, a bigger bed, and a door that actually closes all the way! LOL! I was under the impression he was not looking forward to moving, but he clarified on the way home from dad’s home, saying that he loved the house, just not the work! LOL!

Thanksgiving dinner turned out all right, even though George threw his back out and wasn’t up to doing much. He still made the pie crust. I told him next time to just let me buy one. We had been in the store the day before, and I planned to purchase one since we were running short on time. Long story short, he refused, saying he would make it. Maybe next time, he won’t argue. We had a small crowd this year, which was just fine by me. Robert was home and brought along his girlfriend. She seems to be a nice gal, and I hope to see more of her in the future. X’s & O’s.
