Wooden butterfly captures attention

An awesome wooden butterfly hangs on Carolyn Jensen's living room wall in Superior. It and several other wood items were made by her father, the late Fred Kapperman, He also made wood clocks, wooden hot air balloons and race car bed and an assortment of wooden toys. Most were given as gifts to family members and were constructed in the mid 1980s. The wood grain and knots in the wood inspired the idea to construct the butterfly.

When walking into Carolyn Jensen's Superior home, a wooden butterfy captures one's attention. It was made by Fred Kapperman, her late father.

After Fred retired in 1984, he liked tinkering in his shop in Chester with wood scraps. He made lamps, candelabras and butterflies. Carolyn's butterfly is one of four he made for the family. When he looked at the wood and saw the knot holes, they reminded him of the spots on a butterfly which inspired its creation. The other three butterflies were made for Carolyn's sister, her mother and the carpenter who built the Kappermans' home.
