Commissioners approve employment agreements

Commissioners hold meetings Jan. 3 and Dec. 27

The Jewell County Commissioners, Steve Greene and Brent Beck, and county clerk, Carla J. Waugh, were present for the Jan. 3, meeting.

Employment agreements with the highway department, ambulance, solid waste director, weed department, emergency preparedness and 9-1-1 coordinator and custodian were approved.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, discussed equipment repairs.

Also the commissioners met Dec, 27.

The following were present for office head meeting: Nora Rhoades, Post Rock Extension District director; Cindy Becker, health administrator; and Kevin Peroutek, noxious weed director, emergency preparedness director and 911 coordinator. Those absent were Amanda Davis, register of deeds; Alexandria Carabajal, county attorney; Shannon Meier, ambulance director; Chris Petet, custodian; Anna Porter, county appraiser; Travis Garst, solid waste director; Brenda Eakins, treasurer; Don Jacobs, sheriff; and Joel Elkins, general superintendent.

Peroutek said he has been working on renewal on the licenses for the department and they have been submitted. He reported on the LEPC meeting. He said it was the consensus of the committee to adjust the committee membership.

Rhoades said Jewell County board members elected were Jim Dooley and Susan Greene. She said they have been working on office reorganization. If a grant is available, they could use a small television for their meeting room.

Becker reported they had seven active COVID-19 cases, with five of those being new COVID-19 cases. They had four new COVID-19 cases that morning. She submitted the budget maintenance request for renovation on the restroom at the health clinic and it was approved.

Waugh said employee evaluations and inventory listings were due. She advised everyone received BCBS new policies with cards. She discussed changes in the notary law.

Beck said the commissioners worked on employee evaluations. He worked on a potential fence issue. He plans to go look at the process of the road and bridge’s shredder that goes on a track hoe.

Roe, on behalf of the Jewell County Commissioners, recognized the following employees for their continuous years of service achieved during 2021: Gary Colson and Anna Porter, 5 years; Jeromi Wagner, 10 years; Steven Roesti, 15 years; Lora Ost, 25 years; Marilou Becker, 35 years; and Duane Cady, 40 years. He discussed employment contracts.

The motion that the unused money in the 2021 Jewell County ambulance budget be transferred into the 2022 Jewell County Ambulance Capital Outlay Fund.

It was approved to transfer the unused money in the 2021 Jewell County noxious weed budget into the 2022 Jewell County Noxious Weed Capital Outlay Fund.

It was approved to transfer the unused money in the 2021 Jewell County road and bridge budget into the 2022 Special Road Equipment Fund.

The motion that the unused money in the 2021 Jewell County public health budget be transferred into the 2022 Jewell County Public Health Capital Outlay Fund.

Joel Elkins, general superintendent, discussed equipment repairs. He had job position changes for three employees.
