World Marriage Day is Sunday

February 10, 2022

World Marriage Day will be celebrated Sunday around the world. The day celebrates the lifelong commitment of husband and wife.

World Marriage Day was created by an American organization, Worldwide Marriage Encounter. World Marriage Day is also associated with the Catholic Marriage Movement. It is celebrated on the second Sunday of February.

The original goal was to celebrate the husband and wife as the foundation of the family and the basic unit of society. The name was changed to World Marriage Day in 1983.

In 1993, Pope John Paul II placed his official blessing on the day. World Marriage Day spread through different religions throughout the world.

The day is celebrated in different ways in different countries. In the United States, many couples attend a group dinner or dance. Other couples follow a less organized pattern and create special events for themselves.

Take the time to congratulate those who have been married for a long time. Celebrate the institution of marriage this Sunday in whatever fashion suits you. Several local churches have events planned.
