March 31, 2022

SVFD answers the call once again with red flag warnings being issued almost daily, conditions are rife for grass fires. The Superior Volunteer Fire department was kept busy fighting fires spread by high winds.

Scott Nondorf, fire chief reported the department dispatched two grass rigs, Saturday, to extinguish a fire which had broken out alongside the BNSF tracks south of Superior between Diamond Avenue and Diamond Road. The fire fighters had the blaze extinguished within 20 minutes.

The department was called upon Monday to fight a roadside fire along the Webber Road south of Superior. Nondorf speculated a discarded cigarette was at fault for the blaze.

The fast spreading fire, fanned by high winds, would be contained only after six fire trucks and 16 firefighters had been brought to the scene.

Windy and dry conditions are predicted to keep plaguing the area for the foreseeable future. No burn permits are being issued at the present time.

The department was called upon again Tuesday afternoon. A fire was reported to be burning in the same area as Monday's blaze. No further details were available at press time.
