Roger E. Macklem died April 3. Roger was born in Homer, Neb., on Jan. 8, 1944, to Hurst and Eleanor (Belt) Macklem. He graduated from South Sioux City High School and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He married Joan Hunzeker on Dec. 1, 1973. He was a father to Curtis, Christopher, Cindy (Betka), Joy and Jon.

He earned three degrees from the University of Nebraska. He was a science teacher, a college professor, a Nebraska state science consultant, a principal, and a superintendent of schools.

Roger enjoyed golfing with friends, watching historical movies, staying current with news and politics, singing, telling stories, gardening and cooking. In the fall, he wore Nebraska red and cheered for the Huskers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hurst and Eleanor, and son, Curtis.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; children: Chris, Cindy , Joy and Jon; brother, Allan; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Omaha.
