Superior residents offer suggestions for recreation plans

April 21, 2022

After months of preparation and COVID caused delays, it appears plans are finally being made with regard to future recreational developments for the community of Superior.

Bobbi Pettit of 5 Rule Rural Planning held a series of meetings in Superior on Tuesday.

While meeting with Superior Chamber of Commerce members at 7 a.m. Tuesday, she described Superior as a role model for other Nebraska communities that are not located along the interstate highway system. Pettit has worked with the Superior community in various capacities since 2012.

Her current project is to develop a 10-year master plan for the development of the parks. Participants were asked what they would like to have happen with parks and public recreation.

Previous studies have identified about 30 possible projects. Through this week’s meetings and more to come, those ideas will be prioritized and a design firm will be asked to prepare ideas for the top 5 possible projects.

A design workshop is planned for June 7.

The goal is to have the plan ready by November.

A partial list of ideas suggested includes a trail system which could include a loop trail around Lincoln Park, various park upgrades including improve utilities, expanded camper site, splash pad, swimming pool repair or replacement, and a wellness center.
