Primary election coming Tuesday

Registered voters in Nuckolls County have the option of early voting at the county courthouse in Nelson or in person at one of the designated polling places in the county on Tuesday. According to Carrie Miller, Nuckolls County Clerk, there have been several changes brought about by redistricting. The redistricting took place as a result of the 2020 census. Some county residents have found their precinct boundaries have changed.

Voters from Hardy and Oak will now vote at Ruskin as their polling places have been permanently closed. Superior voters will ballot at the Church of Christ Fellowship Hall. East Nuckolls voters will vote at Ruskin. Nelson electors will vote at the Nelson City Auditorium. Victor voters will vote at the Lawrence Fire Hall.

The primary election features partisan and non-partisan races on the local, state and federal levels.

Candidates who faced no opposition at the local level do not appear on the ballot. They are automatically forwarded to the general election ballot. For school board elections, if there are more than six candidates, then a primary vote is taken. In any case where there is one person more than the number of seats or seat available, there is a vote. If there are three seats on a board and more than three candidates, then there is a vote. In the partisan categories, if there is more than one candidate for one office, the winner advances to the general election.
