Post Rock bring adventure labs to JC

Post Rock Extension District Adventure Lab helps kids discover the adventure of science

Post Rock Extension District is helping kids discover the adventure of science with the pop-up Adventure Lab experience. The Post Rock Adventure Lab features hands-on educational and fun brain boosters that make science engaging and meaningful in the lives of young people.

Four Kansas 4-H summer interns are prepping educational activities to take on the road across Jewell, Lincoln, Mitchell, Osborne and Smith counties. Elaine Cockroft of Esbon is an animal science major who said she is “having a blast planning activities and cannot wait to share them with the kids.” Katie Elder of Salina is in her senior year as an agriculture education major at Northwestern Oklahoma State. Katie said youth are going to have fun “because there will be lots of hands-on activities.”

Survive the Zombie Apocalypse by Making a First Aid Kit, Build a Catapult, and Create an Oil Spill Lava Lamp are teasers of what to expect at an adventure lab. “We are coming up with new and exciting activities that hopefully youth like just as much as we do,” said Rachelle Anderson of Jamestown, an animal science major. Rachelle is looking forward to watching the kids grow and develop.

Katy Borobia, Beloit, said she is “looking forward to directly connecting with the community in an educational capacity, especially in terms of sharing my love of horticulture.”

Adventure labs are free and open to all school-age youth. Upcoming locations include Burr Oak, Lincoln, Downs, Lebanon, Barnard, Formoso, Hunter, Kensington, Jewell, Natoma, Cawker City, and Glen Elder.
